Seeing a Paywall When You Shouldn’t
Quick Answer (TL;DR)
Most cases are resolved by:
Switching to the correct team or signing in with the email address that was invited to the team with an active subscription.
When This Happens
This usually happens when a user signs in successfully but is not yet connected to an organization with an active subscription. It often occurs during first-time setup or when switching devices, browsers, or login methods.
What You Might Notice
-
You are prompted to start a trial or enter payment details
-
You expected access through your company's Brevity environment
-
Other teammates have access but you don’t
-
You recently signed in using a different email or SSO option
-
You were previously able to access Brevity without seeing a paywall
How to Fix It (Step-by-Step)
- Check your notifications (🔔 in the upper right corner) for a pending invite.
-
If you don't see a pending invite, confirm which email address you are currently signed in with.
-
If you have access to an active organization or workspace in Brevity, open the admin settings menu (three dots next to the Organization name on the admin panel), select Switch Organization, and select the Organization with an active subscription.
-
If you used Google or LinkedIn SSO, confirm which email was used to create your account.
-
If the email does not match your organization's invite, sign out and sign back in using the invited email address.
-
If you are not listed on the organization, ask your admin to send or resend an invite.
Important Note About SSO (Google / LinkedIn)
When you sign up or log in using Google or LinkedIn, Brevity uses the email associated with that account.
-
This may be a personal email, not your company email.
-
Team subscriptions are tied to company email invites.
-
If the emails don’t match, you may see a paywall even if your team has a subscription.
Recommendation:
Always sign in using the same email address that your team admin invited.
What Not to Do
-
Do not start a trial or enter payment details if you expect company access.
-
Do not create a new account using a different email address.
-
Do not assume your subscription was removed without checking your team access.
For Admins: How to Help a User Seeing a Paywall
If you are an admin assisting a user:
-
Confirm the user was sent an invite.
-
Verify the email address on the user’s account matches the invite.
-
Resend the invite if needed.
-
Ask the user which login method they are using (password vs SSO).
-
If the user belongs to multiple organizations in Brevity, confirm they are switching to the correct one.
Tip:
Seeing a paywall almost always means the user is logged into the wrong organization or workspace — not that billing is broken.
Why This Happens
Subscriptions in Brevity are tied to organizations and email addresses. If a user signs in with a different email, joins the wrong organization, or hasn’t accepted an invite, the system treats them as a new user and shows a paywall.
