Choosing and building your first course
Start with a short, familiar call so people get used to practicing with an AI buyer.
Step 2 of the Launch Hub, Generate your first course, gives your people something to practice when they join. You can generate the course from a recommendation in your curriculum, build your own with Ella, or build it by hand in Course Builder.
Before you start
- Finish step 1, Build your knowledge base, first. Until your curriculum exists, step 2 says "Generate your curriculum first. Step 1 builds it from your knowledge base." and Open takes you back to step 1.
- The Curriculum page is available to org admins. Ella and Course Builder are available to org admins, team admins, and members who are allowed to create courses.
- The step is done once your organization has one course that has at least one persona and one context.
Why start short
Your first course is how people get used to practicing with an AI buyer. A short course built on a conversation they already have lets them learn how role play works while rehearsing talk tracks they already use. Save longer or harder material for after launch, once people are comfortable with the format.
Recommended first courses
- A discovery or qualification call. Reps ask the questions they ask on every first call, so managers need little prep.
- Objection handling. Reps practice their answers to the objections they hear most, and each role play is short.
A good first course:
- Has Beginner difficulty.
- Uses one persona that matches your most common buyer.
- Needs no new material from managers before reps can practice.
Option 1: Generate from a Beginner recommendation
- On the Launch Hub, go to Generate your first course and select Open. The Curriculum page opens. You can also select Curriculum in the navigation bar.
- Select the Beginner filter.
- Read each recommendation. A card shows how many weeks the course runs, how many times per week reps practice, and its Conversation Context, Personas and Challenges.
- On the recommendation that matches how your team sells today, select Generate Course.
Brevity builds the course in the background and sends you a notification when it is done. The card then shows Assign Course, and the recommendation is locked so that generating the curriculum again doesn't replace it.
To change the generated course, open the card's menu and select Edit Course. The course opens in Course Builder.
Option 2: Build your own with Ella
Use Ella when you already have a script, a talk track or a course in mind.
- Select the Ella button beside the navigation bar. On a phone, select Chat with Ella.
- Under Available actions, select Create Role Play.
- Tell Ella what the role play should cover: the kind of call, who the buyer is, and the objections they raise. Ella asks questions for anything missing. You can type or talk, paste links, and upload a file such as a call script.
- When Ella has what it needs, it builds the role play and opens the assignment settings.
People practice a role play through an assignment. If you close the assignment settings, Ella asks you to confirm, because nobody can practice the role play until it is assigned. The Launch Hub step Assign your first course covers assignments.
Option 3: Build it in Course Builder
Course Builder is the manual route. You write or pick each part of the course yourself.
- On the Launch Hub, under Generate your first course, select Or build your own in Course Builder. The Courses page opens. You can also select Courses in the navigation bar.
- Select Create Course. Course Builder opens.
- Work through the steps: Basic Info, Contexts, Topics, Personas and Review.
- Select Create Course.
Every course needs at least one context and one persona. Topics are optional.
After the course exists
Generate your first course is marked done the next time you open the Launch Hub.
Frequently asked questions
Can I generate more than one course from the curriculum?
Yes. Select Generate Course on each recommendation you want. One course completes the step.
If I delete a recommendation, is its course deleted too?
No. Deleting a curriculum item doesn't delete the course generated from it.
Why can't I select Generate Course?
The button is unavailable while that course is being generated.
Step 2 sends me back to step 1. Why?
Your organization doesn't have a curriculum yet. Finish guided setup in step 1, then return to step 2.
Why is Ella missing?
Members see Ella only if they are allowed to create courses. Org admins and team admins see it.
