Plan Statuses: Active, Inactive & Archived
This guide explains the three training plan statuses in Brevity and how to use them to manage the lifecycle of your training plan library.
Overview
As your training plan library grows, statuses help you keep things organized. Every training plan has one of three statuses:
- Active — The plan is live and available for assignment.
- Inactive — The plan is paused. Use this for plans that are temporarily out of rotation.
- Archived — The plan is stored for long-term reference. Hidden from the default list view.
Status Definitions
| Status | What It Means | How to Set It |
|---|---|---|
| Active | Plan is live and available for assignment. This is the default for all new plans. | Three-dot menu → Set to Active (from Inactive) or Unarchive (from Archived) |
| Inactive | Plan is paused. Useful when a plan is temporarily out of rotation but you may reactivate it. | Three-dot menu → Set to Inactive |
| Archived | Plan is stored for long-term reference. Hidden from the default list view. | Three-dot menu → Archive |
Viewing Plans by Status
- Use the status filter at the top of the Training Plans list to switch between Active, Inactive, and Archived views.
- The default view shows Active plans.
- Select Archived in the filter to see archived plans.
Restoring a Plan
From Archived
- Filter the Training Plans list to show Archived plans.
- Find the plan you want to restore.
- Click the three-dot menu (⋯) and select Unarchive or Restore.
From Inactive
- Find the Inactive plan in the list.
- Click the three-dot menu (⋯) and select Set to Active.
What's Preserved
All historical data is retained regardless of status changes:
- Completion records
- Analytics and score data
- Assignment history
- Plan structure and content
No data is lost when changing a plan's status.
Can I Delete a Plan Permanently?
No. Plans cannot be permanently deleted. Archiving is the closest equivalent — it removes the plan from your active view while preserving all data. This protects historical records and compliance data.
When to Use Each Status
| Scenario | Recommended Status |
|---|---|
| Plan is actively being used for training | Active |
| Plan is between cohorts — you'll reactivate it next quarter | Inactive |
| Plan is outdated but you need to keep the records | Archived |
| Plan was a draft that never launched — you're done with it | Archived |
Tip: Before archiving a plan, consider saving it as a template if you want to reuse the structure for future programs. See Training Plan Templates.
FAQs
What's the difference between Inactive and Archived?
Inactive is a soft pause — useful when you plan to reactivate the plan soon. Archived is for long-term storage, hiding the plan from the default list view. Both preserve all data and both are fully reversible.
Should I save as a template before archiving?
If you want to reuse the plan structure for future cohorts or teams, saving as a template first is a good practice. Templates capture the plan's structure without assignment data.
Does changing a plan's status affect learners who are currently assigned?
Changing a Training Plan to Inactive or Archived will remove the training plan from a Learner's My Training Plans view.
