Set organization role play defaults

Set the phone and language defaults new role play assignments start with.

Role play defaults are the settings every new role play assignment starts with. Set them once for your organization, and each new assignment opens with them filled in. You can still change them on any one assignment.

Launch Hub covers two defaults in the Set role play defaults step:

  • Available for phone based role plays: whether learners can practice role plays over a phone call.
  • Default allowed languages: the languages learners can practice in.

Before you start

  • Role play defaults are set by organization admins.
  • Defaults apply to assignments created after you save. Assignments that already exist keep their settings.
  • The phone setting appears only when phone-based role plays are available for your organization. If you don't see it and want learners to practice by phone, ask your Customer Success Manager.

Set your defaults in Launch Hub

  1. Select Home to open Launch Hub.
  2. Open the Permissions & defaults section and select Set role play defaults.
  3. Set Available for phone based role plays on or off.
  4. Under Default allowed languages, add languages from the Languages list. Remove a language by selecting the x on its chip.
  5. Select Save.

A "Role play defaults saved." message appears, the step is marked done, and Launch Hub moves to the next step. Saving completes the step even if you keep the settings as they were.

Phone-based role plays

With phone-based role plays on, learners can practice a role play assignment over a phone call instead of in the browser. Members need a verified phone number to practice by phone.

  • Turning the setting on in Launch Hub turns on phone-based role plays for your whole organization.
  • Once phone-based role plays are on, you can't turn them off yourself. Contact support@brevitypitch.com to turn them off.

For setup details, see Enabling Phone-Based Role Plays for your Brevity Organization.

Default languages

The languages you choose here are preselected on every new assignment. Learners can hold role play conversations only in the languages an assignment allows.

  • Your organization needs at least one default language. You can't remove the last one.
  • Add every language most of your assignments need. You can narrow the list on a single assignment.

For more on languages, see Manage Supported Role Play Languages at the Organization Level.

Change the defaults on one assignment

When you create an assignment, the Final Details step starts from your defaults.

  1. Under Available Languages, add or remove languages for this assignment.
  2. Under Advanced Settings, select or clear Available for phone based role plays. This option appears only when phone-based role plays are available for your organization.

The change applies to that assignment only. Your organization defaults stay as they are.

Change the defaults later

After launch, change your defaults on the organization Settings tab.

  1. Open the user menu and select Organizations.
  2. Select the Settings tab. If you see Role Play and Meeting Analyzer above the settings, select Role Play.
  3. Change Enable Phone-based Role Plays or Default Allowed Languages.
  4. Select Save.

On the Settings tab you can also apply your default languages to assignments that are already open: select Set All Open Assignments to Default.

The Set your organization's default languages link on an assignment's Final Details step opens the same Settings tab.
