Training Plans - Role Play Assignment Setting Defaults
This guide explains how to configure the Final Details for each section in a training plan. Final Details control the default practice settings that learners get when they start a section's role-play assignment.
Overview
Each section in a training plan has Assignment Details — a set of default settings that control how the role-play assignment behaves for learners in that section. These settings auto-save as you configure them and become the defaults when a learner starts practicing.
Where to Find Assignment Setting Details
- Open a training plan in the builder.
- Click into a Section.
- Below the role-play selection and completion criteria, locate the Final Details panel.
What You Can Configure
Completion Criteria
Each section's passing criteria are also configured alongside the Final Details and may impact the assignment-level settings:
| Setting | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Passing Criteria Type | "Score and Attempts" (requires both) or "Attempts Only" (any score counts) | Score and Attempts |
| Passing Score Threshold | Minimum score (0–100) to count as a passing attempt | 80 |
| Passing Practice Count | Number of passing attempts required to complete the section | 3 |
| Counting Method | "Consecutive" (passing attempts must be in a row) or "Total" (can be non-consecutive) | Consecutive |
Assignment Settings for each section of a training plan will determine the default assignment settings when any Learner begins that section. For a deeper dive into each assignment setting, see also: Create an Assignment.
Support Modes
Control what support is available to the learner during practice:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Scripts | Whether script mode is available to the learner during practice |
| Hints | Whether hints are available to the learner |
| None | No support mode enabled |
Available Languages
Select which languages are available for the role play in this section.
Advanced Settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Phone Role Play | Whether the practice is conducted in phone (audio) mode |
| User Can Mute AI | Whether the learner can mute the AI persona during practice |
| AI Can Hang Up | Whether the AI persona can end the conversation |
| Allow Retries After Hangup | Whether the learner can retry after the AI hangs up |
Other Settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Lock Assignment After Completion | Whether the assignment locks (prevents further practice) after the learner meets completion criteria |
| Recurring | Whether the assignment completion criteria reset in a recurring frequency. |
Important: Changes Don't Apply Retroactively
Final Details set the defaults for new assignments only. If a learner has already started the section and has an active assignment, changing Final Details will not update their existing assignment.
- Only learners who begin the section after the change will get the new settings.
- This applies to both practice settings and completion criteria changes.
- For information on how prior completions are handled when criteria change, check the Retain Results setting in the training plan's Settings tab.
FAQs
Can I change Final Details after the plan is assigned?
Yes, but changes only apply to learners who haven't started that section yet. Existing assignments retain their original settings.
What if I need to update settings for a learner who's already started?
You cannot retroactively update an existing assignment's settings from Final Details. The learner would need to be re-assigned, or the assignment managed individually.
Do Final Details apply to content-only sections?
Final Details are specific to role-play assignments. If a section doesn't have a role play attached, the practice-related settings won't apply. Completion for content-only sections is tracked separately.
What are the default completion criteria?
By default, a section requires 3 consecutive passing attempts with a minimum score of 80 (using the "Score and Attempts" criteria type).
